Abstract Peacock Painting | OIL PAINTING TIME LAPSE

Abstract Peacock Painting | OIL PAINTING TIME LAPSE

Video Transcript

Hi guys

Welcome to another video.

Today I will be painting this peacock with a bit of an abstract flare. It was an experimental piece, and while it was a it of a bumpy road I think the technique could help to add a very cool effect to some pieces.

Lets get started!

I began by painting the peacock with oil paints, in an alla prima style. The painted portion of this piece was completed in one sitting, working wet into wet with the oils.

So I waited a few days for the piece to be completely dry. Or at least what I thought was completely dry, which turns out it wasn't in some spots and this caused some issues. I took painters tape and masked out a design, and then applied a layer of coloured glaze. I then let this dry, and then removed the tape, revealing those nice sharp lines.

So if I were to do this again, I would definitely make some changes. First of all, let everything dry completely, otherwise you will muddy the glaze with your underlying paint. Secondly, I would work with lighter transparent paint. I wanted a nice bright transparent wash of colour, but I realized that the only transparent blues and greens I owned were pretty dark. But that's the importance behind experimenting, you can apply what you learned in the previous adventure to the next one.
