"Tend to Your Own"

You give and give and give, and eventually you are swept up in this sea of giving, losing yourself below the waves. Keep yourself afloat, tend to your own garden.

"Tend to Your Own" was created out of need to illustrate my emotional frustrations, to clarify them and give them a physical form so I could understand their ways.

The heart is a delicate yet resilient thing, but chip after chip still results in a large chunk that is missing. Consistently giving and not asking for the care that your heart and spirit need is a surefire way to wear on your soul.

Do not be afraid to ask for what you need, you are deserving of it. Place special emphasis on nourishing the blooming flower that you are, and beautiful things will come of it.

And for those who just want to get down to brass tacks:

TL:DR - its about asking for what you need, and nourishing yourself. Not about saying no all the time, but saying no when its good for your soul.

"Tend to Your Own" belongs to a long series that I have done collectively titled "Calm Within Chaos".

It started with an idea, then a loose and wild acrylic base was poured. And then the tricky part began. Teasing out shapes and textures with oils to try to form whatever fluttering little being I had my sights on, going back and forth until it emerges. Not an easy technique, but one I enjoy nonetheless. It forces you to pay special attention to the balance between "not enough" and "too much", trying to ensure that I don't overwhelm and override the organic nature of the paint pour.

Once everything was completed and dried, I finished off this piece like all of my paintings: with a shiny layer of Gamvar by Gamblin. This stuff goes on like water and leaves the most delightful shine, which compliments the acrylic pour perfectly.

This red spirit is still looking for a home, so if you are interested in adding it to your collection, the original can be purchased here: SHOP

Thank you for listening to my tale, and I hope you go on to have a magical day!
